Scripture
11 But they did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense.
Luke 24:11 NVI
Observation
The women were the first to visit and see the empty tomb. Upon encountering two celestial beings, they said: “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” And when they returned and told the disciples what had happened, they could not believe it, because what they were saying made no sense at all.
Application
How many times does what we experience with God (experiences, miracles, and even God speaking to our hearts through His Word), sound like foolishness to others who hear us? For those who do not believe in God, the very message of the cross is foolishness to believe.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”
1 Corinthians 1:18-19 NIV
But even among brothers and sisters in Christ, this can happen. The Christian life is moved by walking by faith, where reason and logic often do not apply. Although we cannot change what other people think about our steps of faith and the certainty we have in seeing God guiding us, we must continue fixing our eyes on Christ, the author and finisher of our faith. And when you hear stories that are “too crazy to be true,” remember:
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things — and the things that are not — to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God — that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
1 Corinthians 1:27-31 NIV
Prayer
Jesus, may wisdom never come to overshadow my faith. This faith that believes that impossible things are possible for the glory of Your name. May I be encouraged when I hear the crazy stories of what the Lord has done in the lives of my brothers and sisters. In Jesus’ name.
