Be humble

Scripture:

“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.”
— ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:1-2‬‬NLT

Observation:

Jesus is calling us to be humble in our dealing with others. It is very easy to pass judgment on someone without thinking about what is actually happening. How bad does sin look when someone else is doing it but how subjective we are when it is turned around on us. God is the only judge and every one of us deserves death and separation from God because of our sins. Yet, God gave up His Son, Jesus for us to be reconciled to Him. How unworthy are we to be able to receive such a blessing! That is why we humble ourselves and remember the debt that was paid for us.

Application:

We do not know the whole story of why people are doing something or acting the way they are. We need to be careful not to jump to conclusions nor be quick to judge. I know I have said something that I regretted because I rashly assumed the situation. Additionally, I have situations where I have been judged and have judged someone merely on the appearance of things. I think we need to be better and sometimes mind our own business. There is no reason I should think I am better than anyone because I never know. The scale I judge someone with will be the very one that will be used for me.

  1. Be slow to speak. I need to get the whole story and wait for the truth of the situation could be revealed in time.
  2. Be humble. I need to make sure I am not trying to correct someone when I myself am in a worse situation. I have been forgiven and shown so much grace by God and others, I should also be showing the same grace and forgiveness to others.

Prayer:

Dear God Almighty, Thank you for speaking these words to me! I am so grateful for the forgiveness and grace that I have through Jesus’ sacrifice. I chose to be slower to speak and humble so as to not judge someone else. Help me to encourage and show the same grace and love you have shown me. I choose to let You be the judge. I know this is still a struggle for me, but I am changing as you change my heart and renew me in You! I love you and ask of this in your name, Jesus! Amen!
