Delighting and Meditate in the Word

Scripture

2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither — whatever they do prospers.
Psalm 1:2-3 NIV

Observation

The secret for prosperity (also to be considered “blessed”) according to Psalms  is to delight in the law of the LORD and meditate on it day and night.
It is interesting the comparison the scripture is doing with a tree, showing us:
– **That person is like a tree planted by streams of water**: we will always be close to the One who gives us what is needed to live and not die.
– **which yields its fruit in season**: we won’t be producing fruits all the time, but there are specific seasons to in which those fruits will come.
– **whose leaf does not wither**: even when it is not a season of fruits, there still life!
– **whatever they do prospers**: prosperity has nothing to do with the fruits.
The verse 2 starts with a coordinating conjunction “but”, opposing the thoughts on the previous verse, but at the same time, describing the true meaning of “Blessed”.
So, been blessed or to prosper in everything we do, has nothing to do if we have fruits right now, but the process that we go to produce them. That our lives are rooted near the stream of the living water, and our lives is showing even out of season, that we still rooted in Him.
All that when we focus to delight and meditate in the Word of God, day and night.

Application

To have the Word of God speaking into our lives all the time during our day, brings us a different perspective in the situations we are living through right now.
It reminds us that we are rooted in Christ, and because of that, although the season isn’t of fruits right now, it does not mean he isn’t blessing us or not prospering the things we are doing. Even if a lot of times, the fruits represents blessings and prosperity, the process for the formation of these fruits (when we are trying to get the nutrients , or even when the environment gets tough) the fruits are still been produced when we delight and meditate in His Word.
The Living Word always brings us a new perspective and shapes our character to continue to march forward, whatever the season we are.

Prayer

LORD, I pray that I won’t measure how blessed or prosper I am, based on the visible fruits in my life. But that as long as I am sticking to your Word, to learn from you, I have the assurance that I am planted by the stream of living water. And to be ministered by your Word, it is the true blessing that a man could hope for. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
