Scripture:
We cannot imagine the power of the Almighty;
but even though he is just and righteous,
he does not destroy us.
No wonder people everywhere fear him.
All who are wise show him reverence.[c]” Job 37:23-24 NLT
Observation:
Elihu was the only one of Job’s friends who wasn’t reprimanded by God. Elihu ends chapter 37 talking about how we cannot imagine the power of God. I was reminded not to limit God in my mind about what He can or cannot do. Although I am finite and limited in ability, wisdom, and ideas, God stands infinitely and absolute in power. And even in that, He is just in how he treats us. Although we deserve to be sent to hell, His mercy and grace in Jesus covers us and allows us to experience His love and care. If God were to pull His hand from us, we would be wiped out in an instant. If God were to look away from us, we would all be erased. Oh, how blessed are we that God is so merciful!
Application:
When I doubt His ways, let me remember that I really know nothing. When I feel haughty and feel prideful, let me be reminded that I am under His protection and covering. I choose today to revere Him more and humbly approach the Almighty God. I choose to be a better steward of the time I have been blessed with. It is only through Jesus’ sacrifice that I am given the possibility to do this. Elihu calls us to reverence and to know who God is. I choose to worship and humble myself before God, for wisdom comes from the fear of the Lord.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father God Almighty,
Thank you for not withdrawing your hand from us. Thank you for allowing us to have and do all that You have created us to do. All praises to You, Jesus! Thank you for your grace and mercy that allow me to live another day! I love you and thank you for watching over us all because of the covering of the grace and blood of Christ. In Jesus’ Name. Amen!
