Until We Meet Again

Scripture

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭34:18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation

God is our help in times when we feel everything is going sideways. He is never far. He is able to save.

Application

Today, my grandmother passed away.
She was a strong woman, maybe the strongest that I ever knew.
She was from Okinawa and went to Brazil at the age of 18, marrying a man she never knew before (by omiai). Even on her wedding, my grandfather wasn’t there, as it took place in Japan, and my grandfather was in Brazil. Then she travel to Brazil to face, at that time, a hard life. But they were victorious. They conquer so many things.
When I grew up, she took care of us a lot. Sometimes my parents needed to stay over the week at the farm, and as we kids had school, often who took care of us was our grandmother.
She was a fighter. To the end.
A few years ago, she invited Jesus to her heart.
And the power of the gospel is that it gives us hope. Sometimes hope for this life. But for sure, hope for the after life.
For us that are in Christ, the death isn’t the end but we have the assurance in Christ that we will meet again when the Father call us home.
Because of the COVID-19, and the Brazilian culture of funerals, which we must burry the body in less than 24h after the death, I was not able to go there physically but I could see her, one last time in this life, through the phone.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the years of life you gave to my grandmother. Thank you that you called her home, closer to you, which is the best place where she could ever be. Thank you for the hope that comes when we believe in our savior Jesus, and the hope that we will meet again in the end of our lives. Thank you for been close to us when we feel brokenhearted. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
