“My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help? Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief.”

Observation
David here is crying out for help from the Lord.
The first 2 verses is a reflection of David’s suffering. He gets to the point of asking if God was not with him anymore.
But all the rest of the chapter are a remembrance of everything that God had done for him and for the people in the past, the stories that he heard on how God acted through out the history.
Charles H. Spurgeon explains the figure of Christ in this Psalm:
“The whole Psalm refers to Christ, containing much that cannot be applied to another: parting his garments, casting lots for his vesture, etc. He is described as a kindly, meek and beautiful hart, started by the huntsman at the dawn of the day…”

Jesus uses the same expression as David on the cross before his death:
“At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”

Application
When we are suffering it is so hard to see a light in the end of the tunnel. And there are times where we feel that God had abandoned us. We pray and there is no answer. But don’t get it wrong, because God will never leave us nor forsake us.
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

God provides spiritually and physically.
When we struggle and we are not able to see nor hear God in the storms of life, look to the past, to the history and into our own lives, see God’s unfailing love to his people. He never abandoned us.
Prayer
Father, thank you that you are always with me. Even when I don’t see, you are still working in my life in ways I could not imagine. Help me trust in you. In the name of Jesus, I pray.
