Recall

Scripture

“And I said, ‘This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.’ But then I recall all you have done, O Lord ; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.”
Psalms 77:10-12 NLT

Observation

The Psalmist feels abandoned by God at the beginning of the chapter.

He says that he searched for God, he prayed the whole night but his soul wasn’t comforted.

He cannot sleep and there are no strengths to pray anymore.

He asks if God had abandoned and rejected him and if God won’t show his kindness to him ever again, to the point of thinking that God turn his hand against him.

But then, he remembers all that God has done for him in the past. And he keeps bringing it into remembrance. And this is the turning point from all that negative thoughts to the positive.

Clearly, his situation did not change. But what changed was his perspective.

Application

We cannot really understand what God is preparing for us.

We cannot find the reasons for our suffering, because sometimes, we did nothing to lead us to that point.

But we can do is trust in the Lord.

And when the negative thoughts that try to put us down come, bring to remembrance what gives us hope, the things that he has done in our lives.

It will help us to bring back our trust that God is sovereign and in control of every detail of our lives.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for the new season starting in Japan. I pray that we can remember all the things you have done for us, so we always can face the challenges with raised heads because you are always with us. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
