Scripture:
“I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose.”

Observation:
Paul calls on the Corinthian Christians to be unified and in harmony with each other. He is not saying that we should always agree with each other. But we are still to be unified as Jesus is the head over us.
This past Sunday, Pastor Matt Higa spoke of how we should be peacemakers, settling differences and working toward unity within the church. This reminded us that we should be ready to make peace with those we may disagree with. It is not just keeping things peaceful by overlooking differences. Conversely, we should actively bring peace and unity in our relationships within the body of believers.
Application:
Being peacemakers will require us to be cautious about gossip and grumbling. These things poison the body, eventually leading to fractures and amputation from the body of Christ.
We need to watch our lips that we are spreading encouragement and compassion to those in our church. In conflicting views, we need to be able to sit and talk them through so we don’t end up with a body fighting over what each feels is the best.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you so much for Jesus! Thank you for allowing us to be part of the Body of Christ. I ask that you give us the boldness to be peacemakers. Grant us self-control to keep us from gossiping or complaining. Let our eyes be continually on You as we are made to be more like Jesus. Help us to be unified in the Spirit. I love you and ask of this in Your Name, Jesus. Amen!

観察する：
パウロはコリントのクリスチャンたちに、互いに一致し、調和するように呼びかけている。パウロは、私たちが常に互いに一致すべきだと言っているのではない。しかし、イエスが私たちの頭であることに変わりはないのです。
この前の日曜日、マット比嘉牧師は、私たちがいかに平和を作る者となり、教会内の相違を解決し、一致を目指すべきかを語った。このことは、私たちが意見の異なる人たちと平和を築く用意ができていなければならないことを思い起こさせた。違いを見過ごして平和を保つだけではありません。逆に、私たちは信者たちの体内の人間関係において、積極的に平和と一致をもたらすべきなのだ。
応用編
平和を作る者であるためには、ゴシップや不平不満に注意することが必要です。このようなことは体を蝕み、やがてキリストの体から亀裂を生じさせ、切断することにつながります。
私たちは、教会にいる人々に励ましと思いやりを広めるために、自分の唇に気を配る必要があります。意見が対立した時には、それぞれがベストだと思うものをめぐって争うような体にならないように、じっくりと話し合うことが必要です。
