As I grow older

Scripture

“Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. ‘ Joshua 14:10-11 NIV

Observation

Caleb was together with Joshua and other 10 men when they went to spy the promised land.

Although the 10 men were afraid to enter the promised land because of the giants living in there, Caleb and Joshua trusted the Lord was with them and would deliver that land to His people.

At that time, Caleb was 45 years old, and in the text above, when Joshua was splitting the land among the tribes, he was already 85.

But we can see in the text the vigor, strength, and excitement of Caleb.

Even in such an age he was ready to face battles. Even after 40 years in the desert, he was ready to march!

Application

What kind of man would I be when reaching this age?

What kind of man, am I now?

I am closer to the 40’s than from the 30’s.

Sometimes we think our vigor fades as we grow older.

But not for Caleb.

Although he should be more limited physically due his age, I can feel his heart is burning as he speaks in the text.

Do I have the same energy and same motivation as when I was younger, or am I feeling my vigor is fading away?

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I pray that you shape me as a man that will glorify you even when I am growing older. That my passion and love for you will keep speaking to the heart’s of people, specially when I am older. Don’t let my vigor fade away, but let me be always ready to follow Your lead now and in the future, with even better motivation than the past. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
