The Lord is Everything I Have

Scripture

“Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord ’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’”

Lamentations 3:21-24 NIV

Observation

While I was reading this chapter I could feel how depressing Jeremiah was when he wrote it.

But then I read these words of truth. It is almost like Jeremiah was been suffocated by his own emotions, for all the things that were happening to him, but when he remind himself the hope he have in God, he starts to see the truth about God once again.

He reminds himself about God’s love, His compassion, His faithfulness. And he draws a conclusion that the Lord is everything he has, that is why he trust in Him.

Application

Can I say that “The Lord is everything I have”? Can I wait and trust in the Lord even though the circumstances points on the contrary?

Jeremiah teaches me here that if we just look to the circumstances around us, we might end up negative, complaining, and struggling without a solution.

But when we remember who God is and His attributes, we can say “He is all I have, I will trust in Him”.

Prayer

Lord, you are all I have. Help me to call to mind the things that give me hope. Help me to remember about your unfailing love, your faithfulness, your mercy, and grace. Help me to trust in you always. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
