“Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah. David was afraid of God that day and asked, ‘How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?’”1 Chronicles 13:11-12 NIV
Uzzah touched the ark because the oxen stumble. Maybe he thought it is better to reached out with my hand than let it fall on the floor. And because he touched the ark and he wasn’t from the levites tribe (the tribe of the priests), he died.
He had the right intentions but acted in disobedience of the law. And this action caused his death.
Even when we act with the most pure and right intentions but those actions somehow are in disobedience to God, we are in the wrong page.
We cannot excuse by saying “but I was doing a good thing”… if something is wrong, it is wrong. No “but”, no excuses, even if it was good.
Today we won’t die right on the spot. What we can do is to repent and also to deal with the consequences of our actions. Take courage to face the wrong doings we did in God’s eyes and correct (or accept correction) so we can be blessed.
After the incident, David left the ark in the house of Obed-Edom for three months. That family was very blessed because the presence of God was there with them.
Father, thank you for this Friday. Help me to be an upright man, that leaves according to your statutes, pleasing you in every action I take. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
