Producing More Fruits

Scripture

“He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more.”

John 15:2 NLT

Observation

My grandfather had an enormous garden and loved to spend time there. He also asked us to help him cut the grass and prune the branches of some plants.

As a teenager, I was impatient and also I did not like that job, I just wanted to prune fast to finish the job and do some more exciting things. But the work of pruning is not just cutting things to get a certain shape.

He would spend hours in one tree, checking the branches to cutting the extras to make it beautiful and to make that plant grow stronger. I never exactly understood the whole thing, but reading this Bible verse reminded me about him.

Application

Even when we bear fruits for Christ, we still need to be prune and cleaned. It isn’t to cause us harm, but to make us grow stronger and bear even more fruits.

It is a mistake to think that we do not need to be pruned. It is a mistake to think that we are strong enough already.

As life goes on, we grow in our lives some unnecessary leaves and branches that aren’t helping us, but taking our energy away that should be to produce fruits.

So Jesus needs to come and clean us up so we are able to produce even more fruits than before.

Prayer

Jesus, help me to produce more fruits. Prune me from the unnecessary things I started to carry along my journey. In Your name, I pray.
