Scripture
The men said, “This is the day the Lord spoke of when he said to you, ‘I will give your enemy into your hands for you to deal with as you wish.’ ” Then David crept up unnoticed and cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my master, the Lord ’s anointed, or lay my hand on him; for he is the anointed of the Lord .”
1 Samuel 24:4-6 NIV
Observation
David was running away from King Saul, who had intended to kill him without any good reason.
So David was given the opportunity to kill the king, and get rid of his danger of death.
But David took this opportunity to make peace instead of attacking.
If David had killed Saul, all his problems would be solved, and he would be doing in self-defense for the injustice that was happening against him.
By choosing the path of peace, the difficult path, the loving path, even the king admitted that:
And now I realize that you are surely going to be king, and that the kingdom of Israel will flourish under your rule.
1 Samuel 24:20 NLT
I see that moment as a test of integrity.
Application
- We have to recognize that what we see as “miraculous opportunities” are not always to solve our problems, but rather, a test of integrity.
- Even when circumstances are unfair, we have to take the actions of a righteous person. Our integrity is tested every day.
- When we choose peace over war, even when we have the opportunity to win, it shows those who persecute us unjustly that we are God-fearing in everything we do.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for teaching me every day. I pray that I will be wise to analyze the opportunities that come my way, and take the attitude of a person who fears You and knows that my righteousness comes from You. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Observação
Davi estava fugindo do rei Saul pois este tinha a intenção de matá-lo sem nenhuma justa causa.
Então foi dado a Davi a oportunidade de matar o rei, e se livrar do seu perigo de morte.
Mas Davi tomou essa oportunidade para fazer paz ao invés de atacar.
Se Davi tivesse matado Saul, todos os seus problemas seriam resolvidos, e ele estaria fazendo em defesa própria pela injustiça que estava acontecendo contra ele.
Ao escolher o caminho de paz, o caminho mais difícil, o caminho mais amoroso, até o rei admitiu que:
Agora tenho certeza de que você será rei e de que o reino de Israel será firmado em suas mãos. 1 Samuel 24:20 NVI
Vejo esse momento como um teste de integridade.
Aplicação
- Temos que reconhecer que nem sempre o que vemos como “oportunidades miraculosas” são para solucionar nossos problemas, mas sim, um teste de integridade.
- Mesmo quando as circunstâncias são injustas, nós temos que tomar atitudes de uma pessoa justa. A nossa integridade é testada todos os dias.
- Quando escolhemos paz ao invés de guerra, mesmo quando temos a oportunidade de vencer, mostra aos que nos perseguem injustamente que somos temente a Deus em tudo que fazemos.
Oração
Pai amado, obrigado por nos ensinar todos os dias. Eu oro para que eu seja sábio em analisar as oportunidades que vem a mim, e tomar atitudes de uma pessoa que teme ao Senhor e que sabe que a minha justiça vem de Ti. Em nome de Jesus, amém.
