Scripture:
“These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers all over the world, but your Father already knows your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.”
Luke 12:30-31 NLT
Observation:
If you take a look at social media sites, you can see what dominates the current culture. The more we look at these things, the more they can begin to influence our own heart and in turn become a standard by which we grade ourselves. Therefore, we allow it to dominate our decision-making processes and even become obsessed with mimicking what we have begun to now idolize. Later in Luke 12:34, Jesus explains that whatever we treasure is where our heart will lie.
Jesus cautions us in Luke 12:30-31, that we ought not to let those “things that dominate the thoughts of unbelievers”, be what concerns us. God knows our needs, and those very needs are the ones that are truly important. We may want possessions and money, but is it to make up for our lack of security in ourselves and try to use them to create our identity? Jesus is saying our true needs only can be met by the true God and not by these false gods and idols. Following Him and seeking the Kingdom of God will bring us the satisfaction we crave and can only be found in Christ. Our true needs are known by the One who can supply all that we could ever want, and in Him we should trust for our needs.
Application:
I know that I have often compared myself to the best clips of how people are doing on social media. Things that I see slowly become needs that I never had before. I had to stop to think if I gained these “things” what would that accomplish? Or rather, “Why would I NEED these things?” A lot of it would be to look good in front of others. It would make me feel accomplished and having the “perfect life.” But at what cost? Is it worth it to worry about how I look in front of others? Does it really last? None of these questions could be answered with an affirmative answer. So what does that mean?
- Limiting the amount of time I spend on social media. I can say that even the marketing strategies of advertisements strike the very emotions of feeling like I need this or that to be somebody. This is what I am considering and it might be for others who can be influenced as well.
- Spend more time being real with God. Though He knows what we need and even want, He does want to hear from us. I know I have often poured out my heart to God, and not immediately but in a certain amount of time, He answers my prayer with what I want or what I really need.
Prayer:
Dear Jehovah Jireh, God Almighty, thank you for today’s Word to me. Thank you for challenging me to consider why I want things to take a look at what I really need. I come before you to ask for your healing and affirmation of my identity in You. Lord God, you are my creator and lover of my soul, please reveal to me the hidden needs that I have and help me to seek you to supply the very things that are eternal and worthy. Thank you for loving us and being our provider and giving us all we need to live. I love you and ask of this in Your Name, Jesus. Amen!

ソーシャルメディアサイトを見てみると、現在の文化を支配しているものが見えてきます。それらを見れば見るほど、自分の心に影響を与え始め、ひいては自分を評価する基準になりかねません。そのため、自分の意思決定プロセスを支配するようになり、自分が偶像化し始めたものを模倣することに執着するようにさえなってしまうのです。ルカによる福音書12章34節で、イエスは「私たちが大切にするものは、私たちの心が宿るところです」と説明しています。
ルカ12:30-31で、イエスは「不信心者の考えを支配するもの」を私たちの関心事にしてはいけないと警告しています。神様は私たちの必要をご存知で、その必要こそが本当に大切なものなのです。私たちは財産やお金を欲しがるかもしれませんが、それは自分自身の安心感の欠如を補うためであり、それらを使って自分のアイデンティティを作ろうとするためでしょうか。イエスは、私たちの真のニーズは、これらの偽りの神や偶像ではなく、真の神によってのみ満たすことができると言っているのです。主に従い、神の国を求めることが、私たちが切望する満足をもたらし、それはキリストにおいてのみ見出すことができるのです。私たちの真のニーズは、私たちが望むものをすべて供給することができる方によって知ることができ、私たちはこの方に私たちのニーズを託すべきなのです。
応用編です。
私はよくSNSのベストクリップと自分を比べてしまうことがあります。そうすると、今まで持っていなかったものが、徐々に必要になってくる。もし私がこれらの「もの」を手に入れたら、何を達成できるのだろうかと、立ち止まって考えてみる必要がありました。というより、「なぜ、これらのものを必要とするのか？その多くは、人前で見栄えをよくするためでしょう。そうすれば、達成感や “完璧な人生 “を手に入れたように感じられるでしょう。しかし、その代償は？人前でどう見えるかを気にすることに価値はあるのだろうか？それは本当に長続きするのだろうか？これらの質問には、どれも肯定的な答えが返ってきませんでした。 ということは、どういうことなのでしょうか？
SNSの利用時間を制限する。広告のマーケティング戦略でさえ、自分が誰かになるためにはあれもこれも必要だと感じる感情そのものを直撃すると言えるでしょう。これは私が考えていることであり、同様に影響を受ける可能性のある他の人のためでもあるかもしれません。
神と本音で向き合う時間を増やす。神様は私たちが何を必要としているか、何を望んでいるかさえもご存知ですが、私たちから話を聞くことを望んでおられます。私はよく神様に自分の心を注いだことがありますが、すぐにではなくても、ある一定の時間が経つと、神様は私が欲しいもの、本当に必要なものをもって私の祈りに答えてくださいます。

全能の神エホバ・ジレ様、本日の御言葉をありがとうございました。私がなぜ物事を欲しがるのかを考え、本当に必要なものは何かを見つめ直すよう、私にチャレンジさせてくださったことを感謝します。私はあなたの前に来て、あなたの癒しと、あなたにおける私のアイデンティティーの肯定を求めます。主なる神様、あなたは私の創造者であり、私の魂の恋人です。どうか私の隠れたニーズを明らかにし、永遠で価値のあるものを供給してくださるよう、あなたを求めることができるようにしてください。私たちを愛し、私たちの供給者であり、私たちが生きるために必要なものをすべて与えてくださることを感謝します。私はあなたを愛し、あなたの御名、イエスによってこれを求めます。アーメン!
