Money vs God

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money. money.” The Pharisees, who dearly loved their money, heard all this and scoffed at him. Then he said to them, “You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your hearts. What this world honors is detestable in the sight of God.     Luke 16:13-15

Observation:

How we use our money is like a mirror in which we can see who the true Lord of our life is. We might confess with our mouth many things, but how we use money often shows our true devotion. Jesus also challenges us not to care so much about our appearance in front of others but to be aware of our true motivation (God knows your hearts).

Application

Money belongs to God, not us; let us use our resources wisely. Money can be used for good or evil; let us use ours for good. Money has a lot of power; let us use it carefully and thoughtfully. We must use our material goods in a way that will foster faith and obedience (see 12: 33-34). Money is a servant to be used “to do good”! We can only use money in the right way to the extent we don`t let it become the king of our heart.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for how you have blessed me in many ways. Thank you for how faithfully you have been providing during all these years. Forgive me when I struggle to trust you and want to find my security in other things then you alone. Help be to be a good steward of what you have given to me. Amen!
