It is not the end.

Scripture

“Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.”
2 Corinthians 1:9 NIV

Observation

Paul and Timothy inform the church in Corinth about the troubles and suffering they experienced in the province of Asia, that it was more than what they could bear, losing hope in their own lives.

They realized all that happened so they could completely rely on God, not on themselves.

It is interesting how they point out “who raises the dead”. I think they meant that relying on God does not mean that things will change according to their way or desire, but the understanding that even if death is what awaits them, they will still reply on God, who (1) could bring them back to life, or (2) who will raise us back to life in the return of Christ.

Application

How do we face the troubles and sufferings? When we trust ourselves, we lose hope and motivation which is the end. But when we put our trust in God, even when we face hardships there is still hope because our God can raise us from death.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help to put my trust in you always. Help me to completely rely on you in all the areas of my life. In your name, I pray.
