Hungry?

Scripture:

“The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’”

— Luke 4:3-4

Observation:

Jesus was tempted by the devil three times each with its own struggle each of us has. Lust of the flesh, pride of life, the lust of the eyes. We all will struggle with all of these throughout our life. Are we falling to what is fast, convenient, and easy? Choose the easy and quick option and we have surrendered to whatever that temptation is.

I was reminded of how I will reach for whatever may be readily available when I’m starving with nothing prepped. It may be weird combinations of things, but just to feel full. Could be cookies, candies, and cheese, or chips and a tangerine. Not too good for one trying to lose weight or stay healthy.

Application:

But the Good News is that God will give us a way out of our temptations! We need to look for it. Though it might not be the easy route, it will lead us to righteousness and out of regret. We are choosing God’s way not the way of the world.

Be prepped. Jesus didn’t have any food and the devil tempted him by turning stones into bread. He refused because he was prepared with God’s Word to sustain Him. We too need to have things prepared before we fall into temptation. It could be setting time limits on screen times, it could be things to do when stress hits. Pray for God’s ways out and keep them ready.

Prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, praise, and glory to you for sending your Son, Jesus to understand the struggles we face and for giving us ways out. Thank you for showing us how to escape the grasp of temptations. Help us be reliant upon You and to be ready. Thank you for your grace that washes over us when we do fall. We are so grateful that you are patient and loving! We love you and ask of this I. your Name, Jesus. Amen!
