Variables in life

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest? Luke 12:25, 26 NIV

In our limited view of life, one decision here, another there and so on, can lead us to an infinite amount of outcomes, that circles our lives every day.

But we tend to forget that the majority of things that influences our lives isn’t actually a series of events that we decided, but a combination of factors that is out of our control.

We think of “what ifs” we done differently, we could calculate the final outcome, but that is wrong.

The variables that we cannot control far out stands the ones we can.

The scripture says that we should not worry about life at all, because we cannot do a “simple thing” (which is nothing simple about it) as adding an hour to our lives.

We just returned from Brazil.

It wasn’t an easy trip.

There were too many flights, too many cities, too many meetings, too many people traveling together, and everyone depended on me to make it.

If you would ask me of one thing I learnt from this trip is that even thou I try plan very well, what took most of my energy was the stress of things I couldn’t control, or the chaos that could easily happen when adding too many variables.

And even thou, I knew in theory: “God is in control”, “Trust in God”, “Don’t worry”, when comes to facing the uncertainties it was never fun, and my feelings was all over the top.

But looking back right now, my thoughts are: “did I need to worry this much?” “would the outcome be the same of me worrying or not?”

The point is not about don’t take actions, but to do what needs to be done, without the anxiety, the worry, the concern of things that is really out of my hands.

Heavenly Father, help to me to let go of things that I cannot control, the things that brings me worry but give me the joy of relying my life on you, and knowing that you are the only one who can add a single hour to my life. Help me trust in you, who can lead me even through the infinite variables of life. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
