Seek After Him

10 so David inquired of God: “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?”

14 so David inquired of God again, and God answered him, “Do not go directly after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the poplar trees.

1 Chronicles 14:10 and 14 ESV

David had full dependence on the Lord for direction in battles and even establishing relationships in his kingdom. David sought the Lord on two separate occasions and God directed him to proceed in two different ways. It is easy to think just because God has guided us once in a similar situation that, He will do the same thing in another. Instead, David teaches us here to rely upon Him. Expect Him to answer through faith, knowing He will bring us through, but not always in the same way.

I know I lean upon my own knowledge and understanding quite a bit. Today I am challenged to rely upon God more. It isn’t that I cannot do things on my own, rather it is the relationship that matters. Something I need to continue in a deeper way is to pray through my daily schedule. Spending time before the Lord with my schedule book open to Him and seeking His direction for each thing. Additionally, I need to have faith that God will answer and direct me. How often do I not go to Him when I think things are as usual but turn out differently than how I expected throughout the day? Praying through my schedule and spending time with Him to seek out His direction is vital.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much for speaking to me today through Your Word. Thank you for wanting to still have an intimate relationship with me. Please forgive me when I go off and do what I think is right without counseling with You. Today, I open my schedule to You and speak and direct me in the events that will be happening to me. I chose to hear Your directing and have faith in Your answer. I love you and ask of this in Your Son’s precious Name, Jesus. Amen!
