Remember the LORD

Remember the Lord

“But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today.” — Deuteronomy 8:11 NLT

“Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you the power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.” — Deuteronomy 8:18 NLT

When things are going well, it is easy to forget where we once were. Moses warns the Israelites before they go into the Promised Land. He is also speaking to us that in the times when we are amidst the blessing of God, we are to be careful. In those times, pride, “I did this myself and through my own efforts and power,” can slip in, and it could lead us into sin and disobedience.  God is the source of our power to be successful and the spring of blessings we receive. He is faithful to His Oath and promises, but we, too, need to be in obedience to Him. We are to remember Him in every season of our lives, not just in the trials, storms, and challenges.

How can we remember Him through every season?

  1. Prayer. This will keep our focus on God. We are opening our hearts to Him and conversing with our Creator and Lord. We are humbling ourselves before the Lord God Almighty. It is a time of confession and repentance. However, it is not just asking the Lord for this or that; rather, our prayers should lead us to the next part – praise.
  2. Praise. When we are praising and worshipping God in song and thanksgiving, let our spirit, body, and mind all be focused on specific praise of thanksgiving. Praise and worship is not only song, but it is the way we live. Our whole lives and what we are doing with the life we are blessed with should reflect our worship of God.
  3. Devotions. Being in the Word of God will remind us of the truth. We can allow the Holy Spirit to speak into our lives and to allow us to be reminded of the path we are to be on. By daily being in the Word of God, we can allow it to be our standard of how we should be living. It will speak to us and help point out areas that we need to be attentive to in our lives.

Heaven Father, God Almighty, Holy are you and I come before you and thank you for the Word you have spoken to me about this morning. I confess times that I have let my pride steal your glory. I ask for your forgiveness and I humble myself before You. Jesus, help us to keep centered upon you in every season of life we go through. We are grateful for your blessings and choose to obey You. We love you and ask of this in Your Name, Jesus. Amen!
