Scripture
They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?” Acts 4:7 NIV
Observation
Peter and John were put into jail and later brought to the rulers, elders, and teachers of the law to account for a miracle: they healed a lame man.
They spoke about Jesus to them and affirmed that:
“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12 NIV
So the authorities commanded Peter and John to don’t speak or teach at the name of Jesus.
But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:19,20 NIV
Application
There is power in the name of Jesus. The power that:
- saves
- heals
- forgives
- cleanses
- renews
- transforms
- makes us a new creation
- clothes us in righteousness
- restores our relationship with God
- rescues
- sets free
- protects
- makes us complete
- redeems
- perform signs and wonders
… and much more.
That is why we pray in the name of Jesus because there is no other name.
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 NIV
Prayer
Thank you Jesus for making the way for us to reconnect to God. Thank you for setting us free from sin and death. Thank you for making us a new creation in you, by the power of your name. Amen.
