On Our Lips and In Our Thoughts

“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Joshua 1:8 NIV

God tells Joshua to keep the Book of the Law in the very forefront of his thoughts and his words so his actions will follow. When someone always talks about something and thinks about something, their actions tend to follow suit. You find ways to get it. You search for avenues to make what you talk about come to a reality. We are programming our life with our thoughts and words. What we think and talk about most is what we will have or be surrounded with. We are inputting what outcome we desire. That is why God desires Joshua to keep the Book of the Law on his lips and in meditation.

The Book of the Law was not to just be a book of rules to follow nor a book that tells us what not to do. Rather the Book of the Law was for the prosperity and success of the nation of Israel as they moved to take over the promised land. It was set so that the people would be blessed.

We need to let the Word of God be always in our thoughts and words. It should be the very basis for what we speak to others with and for directing our actions. But we will not know what to do if we are not reading the Word of God, nor praying. The discipline of being consistent and intentional about searching out the wisdom of God, is vital to help us grow and be prosperous and successful in life. Our actions will be shaped by the Bible. Our pursuits will be fuelled by the Bible. Our lives will be filled with the richness of heaven and living a life that glorifies God. Our daily habits need to be in reading and meditating on the Word of God. It needs to be praying through the Words and allowing them to penetrate our very soul. It has to be done daily.

Lord Jesus, thank you for your Word. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us through the Bible. Thank you for speaking to us through your Word. I chose to have your Word be on lips and in the meditation of my heart. I ask for your guidance and direction so that my very being is in pursuit of You. I ask for your forgiveness for when I have taken the world’s wisdom and forsook your Words. I ask that you cleanse my thought and lips of any rebellion to following you. I love you so much and I truly desire to please you! I ask this in Your Name, Jesus. Amen!
