No Doubt in the Heart

Scripture

“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭11:23-24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Observation

A few verses before, Jesus curses a fig tree because there was no fruit in it. In the morning of the next day, they find that tree dry from the roots.

So Jesus teaches the disciples a lesson of faith, that if there is no doubt in their hearts, but truly believe in what they say, it will happen.

Application

To ask for in prayer without doubts in our hearts takes practice.

Most of the time, when we pray we try to be passive.

But Jesus shows that prayer and faith are active, not passive. It is to, not only have the courage to ask for things that seem impossible but to believe that it can happen.

Sometimes we have the feeling of

“I don’t want to bother God with these small issues”;

“I can solve it myself, I don’t need to get God involved with it”.

However, that makes us believe:

“God is too busy with other matters”;

“My small problems do not matter for God”

And in consequence, we think of God as too far, not reachable, not part of our daily lives, only requesting God what really we cannot solve. But at that point, our heart did not practice seeing the answers to our prayers on small matters, so when we pray for the big matters, we won’t actually believe that what we are asking will happen. We are just praying because that is our last resource.

God is our Father, and for Him, if something is significant for us, He cares.

Let’s practice faith, let our prayer be active. Let’s pray believing that we will receive what we are asking.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for this wonderful Friday. Help me my prayer to be more active, with no doubts in my heart. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
