Scripture
“Finally, he said to his disciples, “Let’s go back to Judea” John 11:7 NLT
Observation
Lazarus was sick in Judea and not long ago, people were trying to stone Jesus there.
Although Jesus was a close friend to Lazarus and his sisters, the disciples did not understand why Jesus had to be back there so early.
But it wasn’t early. Jesus told them that Lazarus had died and his words were:
“And for your sakes, I’m glad I wasn’t there, for now you will really believe. Come, let’s go see him.” John 11:15 NLT
In Thomas perspective, Jesus would die going to Judea, but he was ready to die with him.
What was in the thoughts of the disciples during the journey there? It should have taken about 2 days to arrive in Bethany.
Did they think that they would be going their just to give some consolation Martha and Mary?
Were they worry all the way about what would be awaiting them there?
Did anyone thought on the impossible to be possible “will Jesus resurrect Lazarus?”
Many (including the disciples) knew the miraculous healing that Jesus did, and if he was there before Lazarus’ death, certainly they expected Jesus to heal his friend.
There was one situation of Jesus raising another person from death, a little girl, the daughter of Jairus. At that instance, apart from the parents, only Peter, James and John were present.
I wonder if these 3 were expecting what was about to happen.
Application
Jesus walked towards dangers to bring consolation for his friends, to perform a miracle, but more importantly, it was so people would believe in him.
Lazarus death happened so the Son of God would receive glory for God.
In this case, through the resurrection of Lazarus.
We always have our own way and our own timing to do things.
We expect the Lord to answer our prayers with a certain solution, within a timeframe.
But God is never late. And what happens, happens for His glory.
So, next time I am facing a difficult situation, that needs to be solved in a timeframe, I should not loose hope even if there is no time anymore, because God is never late.
I should always pray that He will be most glorified through every situation in my life, so others can also believe in him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, teach me to be flexible, to don’t fix my eyes on timing for things, but in You, and that You will bring Your name glory through the way I live my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
