Scripture
“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.”
2 Timothy 1:6 NIV
Observation
It seems that Timothy was not been so strong in the use of the spiritual gift that God had given him.
What Paul teaches us here is that every believer is responsible to develop the work of the Spirit in their own lives.
1 Thessalonians 5:19 says:
“Do not quench the Spirit.”
1 Thessalonians 5:19 NIV
It means that we could actually restrain the Spirit in our lives.
But in the same way, it is possible to revive the gift of the Spirit until becomes like a flame.
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.”
2 Timothy 1:7 NIV
When we are not courageous to strongly use the gift that God has given us, we are quenching the Spirit.
Application
Be courageous to keep developing the gift that God gave me, because God gives us:
- Power, so we are not afraid to use it.
- Love, so we do everything motivated by love.
- Self-discipline, so we know that it takes self effort to keep the gift of the Spirit alive in us.
Prayer
God, thank you for your Spirit works in me and through me. Help me to put into practice, don’t be shy but do everything you commanded with boldness and not timidity. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
