Do Differently

20 Slaughter it, take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Then splash blood against the sides of the altar. Exodus 29:20 NIV

Blood is considered the life of the being it was taken from. The rituals that were conducted to consecrate the priests are what God has done with us through Jesus. Our sins and shame were laid upon Jesus. Jesus endured and gave His life so that we are now clothed in righteousness and made holy through His blood. Now we see in verse 20 the blood of the ram being put on Aaron and his sons on the lobes of their right ears, right thumbs of their right hands, and the big toes of their right feet. This ritual was to signify that since they are consecrated to God, they need to hear differently, they are to work differently, and they are to walk differently. As Christians, we are called to live our lives differently than before we committed ourselves to Christ. How we do things should be different because we are forgiven, given His grace and mercy, being sanctified and transformed to be more like Jesus. If we were to put our decision-making, our actions, our words, our conduct and focus side by side with our past, are they different?

I know that before coming to Jesus, my life was a wreck and most certainly headed for destruction. I had known of God through church and even went to church almost every Sunday. Yet that life was more of a ritual than living life differently. I am so grateful for Jesus’ saving grace and mercy upon me! Am I living life differently? I know I can say yes, but I know there is so much more to change. Thank you, Jesus, for your grace and mercy.

Areas that need to be in constant change:

  1. Taking in information and processing it. Although I am bombarded with information from all different sources, I need to be discerning and submit each of my thoughts to Christ (2 Cor 10:5) I know I can be easily swayed but emotions and popular ideas, but I need to have a new mindset and discerning way of making decisions and especially choosing my responses more carefully.
  2. Work differently. I know I have a lazy spot in me that would like to cut corners or procrastinate. But my work must be like working for Jesus (Col 3:23). I must put out my best effort and learn to do things not half-heartedly.
  3. The direction of my life should be different. I am a worry wart and like to conjure up scenarios that make my anxiety worse. My trust should be in God, who has plans for me that will work out for my good. I know it is so difficult for me to want to take control over everything, but that is not what walking in Christ differently means. I need to walk by faith in His Will and promises.

Dear Jesus, thank you so much for what You have done on the cross for all of us. Thank you for sanctifying us through the blood you shed. I ask for your guiding hand to lead me in living and doing things differently because I have met You. Please forgive me when I go back to things I used to do and not live according to your will in my life. I choose You! I love you and ask of this in Your Name, Jesus. Amen!
