The power of Prayer

Scripture: I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.                 1 Timonthy 2:1-4

Observation: Paul challenges us to pray for all people, including the authorities. In Paul’s day, these authorities were the oppressive Roman government and even those who crucified Jesus. Prayer is an act of humility where we surrender control to God and trust that He has a plan and is in charge of all circumstances.

Application: The devotion today challenged me to pray not only for my personal issues but also for the Japanese government and the many challenging situations around the world. It’s exciting that through prayer, we can participate in what God is doing. Additionally, prayer transforms our hearts from complaining to humility and trust in God.

Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for the gift of prayer. We can come to you with all our requests. Help me pray more for people in the government. Thank you that you are in charge of the whole world, and you desire everyone to know about your love and grace. May your character increase in me through my prayers.
