The Lord is fighting for us!

Scripture:
“On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel: ‘Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.’ So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar.”  (Joshua 10:12-13, NIV)

Observation:
As I reflect on this passage, I am struck by the boldness of Joshua’s prayer and the remarkable way God answered. Joshua trusted God’s promise to fight for His people and prayed for a miracle that transcended human limitations. This incredible event demonstrates God’s sovereignty over all creation and His faithfulness to act on behalf of those who trust Him.

Throughout Joshua, we are reminded of this profound truth: *“The Lord fights for Israel”* (Joshua 10:14, 10:42, 23:10). God’s intervention ensured that Israel’s victories were not by their strength alone, but by His divine power. This assurance fills me with confidence that the same God who fought for Israel is also with me in my battles today.

Application:
Knowing that “the Lord is fighting for us” reshapes how I approach challenges in my life. It means I don’t have to rely solely on my own strength or seek vengeance when wronged. Instead, I can trust that God is actively working on my behalf to bring justice, healing, and resolution in His perfect way and timing.

Today, I want to lay my burdens before Him and trust Him with the battles I face. Whether it’s a personal struggle, a difficult relationship, or a seemingly impossible situation, I will remember that God is in control and I am not alone. Joshua’s story encourages me to pray boldly, believe confidently, and find peace in knowing that God is fighting for me.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being my protector and defender. Just as You fought for Joshua and the Israelites, I know You are fighting for me. Help me to trust in Your power, especially when I feel overwhelmed or weak. Teach me to pray boldly, knowing that nothing is too hard for You. Thank You for freeing me from the burden of striving in my own strength and for the peace that comes from trusting You. I bring my challenges to You today and rest in the assurance that You are with me. Amen.
