Rend Our Hearts

Scripture:

“That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.”
— ‭‭Joel‬ ‭2‬:‭12‬-‭13‬‬

Observation:

What a call to talk to others about Jesus! There is still time, although we do not know when He will come. Joel tells us to mourn and fast; it is not an outside expression of grief, but rather it is about the heart! Joel tells us in the little time we have left to tear our hearts! Repentance comes from the tearing of our hearts, not just showing outward signs. It is inside that needs repentance; it is what flows from our hearts that needs refining. Thankfully, God has given us Jesus Christ and His Spirit that gives us power, self-discipline, and love. That through Jesus, we can return to the Father who is compassionate, merciful, slow to anger, filled with unending love, eager to relent and not punish.

Application and Prayer

How can I not share about Jesus, who has sacrificed himself for us?! Lord Jesus, please loosen my lips so that I may proclaim the Good News to people. Especially my brother and sister. You said to turn to you while there is still time. We don’t know the day nor the hour of your coming, but let that be a burden upon us to share the Good News with those you have called us to reach. Thank you for this work. I look forward to your coming, Jesus!
In your Name, Jesus Christ, amen!
