Scripture
I said, “You are gods,
sons of the Most High, all of you;
nevertheless, like men you shall die,
and fall like any prince.” Psalm 82:6-7 ESV
Observation
Jesus quoted this same scripture in defending himself when the Pharisees accused Him of blasphemy. (John 10:34) This scripture explains that the office we hold as Christians, being sons and daughters of the Living God, ministers, and a royal priesthood, should be one we take to heart. It is who we are in God’s eyes through Jesus Christ. Yet, that office shall not be put to use in selfish and evil ways. We are to be ministers of God who, as stated in Psalm 82:3-5,
Give justice to the weak and the fatherless;
maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute.
4 Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
5 They have neither knowledge nor understanding,
they walk about in darkness;
all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
Let us be God’s representatives here on earth, sharing God’s love with all, granting justice to the weak and fatherless, protectors and promoters of peace. As 1 Timothy 1:5 says, **”**The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.” Let us be stirred to love others in the Name of Jesus.
Application
Let us not take this “title” for granted. We have a responsibility to share Jesus with others. A couple of areas I need to focus more on is prayer and deeds. Prayer is necessary for me to bring others before the throne of God. It is where I can listen to His direction in matters and works He has for me. Deeds would consist of me obeying God’s direction, which comes from prayer. In a way, I am practicing what I preach and what God is leading me in.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, I come before you and am so grateful for your grace and mercy. Thank you for giving your people a new identity and home. I ask for your touch upon the lives of those who are not your followers. I pray in Your name, Jesus, that You lead them to You and allow the Gospel to be shared and that they accept You as their Lord and Savior. Thank you, God, for your love, mercy, and grace. In Your Name, Jesus, Amen!
