S – Scripture
“The children I raised and cared for have rebelled against me.
Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its master’s care—
but Israel doesn’t know its master. My people don’t recognize my care for them.”
— Isaiah 1:2–3 (NLT)
O – Observation
In Isaiah’s time, Judah was materially prosperous (under Uzziah and Jotham), but spiritually sick. God speaks with a grieving Father’s voice: He raised His people, cared for them—but they turned away. Even animals show loyalty to their caretakers, but God’s own people had forgotten Him. Outwardly, they still worshipped, but their hearts were far from Him (Isaiah 1:11–15; 29:13).
A – Application
Why did God’s people forget His care?
Pride from affluence (Isaiah 2:7–8): “Their land is full of silver and gold… idols abound.”
Religious routine (Isaiah 1:13): “Stop bringing meaningless offerings.”
Trust in political alliances (Isaiah 30:1–2): “…they carry out plans that are not mine.”
Rejection of God’s Word (Isaiah 30:9–11): “They do not want to hear the Lord’s instruction.”
I can fall into the same patterns—relying on success, going through the motions, or ignoring God’s voice when life feels secure. But God doesn’t want empty religion; He wants relationship. He has cared for me deeply. Will I recognize that today?
P – Prayer
Father, I confess that I often live as if I don’t need You. Open my eyes to Your care and kindness. Keep me from pride, routine faith, and misplaced trust. Help me return to You not just with words, but with a heart that truly remembers. Amen.
