God does not forget

Scripture: Hebrews 6:10-12 (NIV) “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”

Observation: In these verses, the author of Hebrews reassures believers that God is just and will not forget their work and love shown in helping others. The author encourages them to maintain their diligence and enthusiasm to the very end, ensuring that their hope is fully realized. The author encourages them to be like the heroes of faith mentioned in Hebrews 11, who trusted God’s promises and were not let down. Abraham is highlighted as a key example of faith and patience, qualities that define the true people of God during challenging times.

Application: Different challenges and disappointments can make our faith grow cold, leading to losing the hope we have in Jesus. Today’s devotion once again reminded me that my faith journey needs my focus on commitment every day. It is so easy to become lazy and distracted. Sometimes, not receiving the praise we desire from people can be a reason to become lazy and disappointed. But there is great encouragement: God does not forget our love for Him as we help others: To keep our faith alive, it is important to keep taking our hope from God and not from people.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for the encouragement and guidance found in Your Word. Help me to maintain my diligence and enthusiasm in my faith journey. Guard me against complacency and laziness, and give me the strength to persevere with faith and patience. May I always look to the examples of those who have gone before and trust in Your promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
