Disagreements

Scripture

“Now I appeal to Euodia and Syntyche. Please, because you belong to the Lord, settle your disagreement. And I ask you, my true partner, to help these two women, for they worked hard with me in telling others the Good News. They worked along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are written in the Book of Life.” – Philippians 4:2,3 NLT

Observation

These 2 women worked hard in proclaim the Gospel but for some reason (that this letter does not specify) they had an disagreement. And it seems it was not a simple thing to solve, as Paul had to write it in his letter, even asking others to help them to settle it.

Application

Inside every church there will be disagreement among people, because church is made by people, who are organic, alive, and full of mistakes. Maybe it is an opinion someone has towards a subject, or maybe it is about how someone behaves.

Disagreements are inevitable, but what comes next that shows our true hearts.

(1) for those in disagreement, stepping towards the reconciliation and not running away from it shows spiritual maturity and growth when we forgive and are able to move on.

(2) for those around, helping your brothers and sisters to reconcile shows that you love and care. Just taking one of the sides does not help, it just affirms that the other person is wrong, and it does not move the parties to forgive each other.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help us to solve the relationship problems when we see it inside our church, so everyone can grow to be more like you in the process: a person who loves, who cares, who forgives, and who works towards reconciliation. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
