Scripture
Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
but to your name goes all the glory
for your unfailing love and faithfulness. Psalm 115:1 NLT
Observation
I don’t know what it is about ’90s worship that I can identify with, but outside of it, it marks the beginning of what I began to know as worship music. Not to say it was all perfect, but the simplicity and the direction focused on glorifying Jesus. As I read this verse this morning, I could not help but ask myself, “How much do I take from the glory God should be receiving?” It is like this is a warning to me to make sure that I do not forget that it is to the LORD does all glory go. It is to Him who first loved, who is ever-faithful, who saves us through HIS mercy. The glory doesn’t go to me one iota. It all comes from Jesus. It is all because of the Father who loved us so much to grant us His grace, salvation, and mercy through Jesus.
Application
I need to remember where it all comes from. It comes from God. I need to live with a grateful heart. That means that when I feel like complaining about why things are not how I see them to be or turn out how I wanted them to turn out, it could be because of God’s will, so find ways to be grateful to Him. He could be protecting me from something that I thought was for my best.
Point others to Jesus. It is also good to accept words of thanks, but I need to keep humble and point others to Jesus. I am blessed to be used by Jesus to share His Gospel. He has blessed me with talents and abilities that He can use. Let Jesus be praised and point others to Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, God Almighty,
Thank you so much for this morning that I get to spend in Your Word. Reading this verse in particular struck my heart because I remember the times I have taken glory that was supposed to be for You. I ask for your forgiveness. Thank you again for pouring your Spirit into me and all those who love you. Thank you for using us to proclaim Your Word and granting us talents and abilities that we can use to bring others to You and glorify You. I ask that when I begin to take glory from You, that you mercifully let me know that I am. I truly desire to give you all the glory and praise! I love you and ask this in Jesus’ precious name. Amen!
