Scripture
“O God, I beg two favors from you; let me have them before I die. First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs. For if I grow ricj, I may deny you and say, “Who is the LORD?” And if I am too poor, I may steal and thus insult God’s holy name.Proverbs 30:7-9 NLT
Observation
If I was sure that God would grant 1 wish, what would I ask?
The first answer that many would give is related to money: “I want to be a billionaire”, or “I want to have so much money so neither I nor the generations after me wouldn’t have to work for the rest of our lives”…
Agur was a wise teacher who wrote this section of the book. There is not much information about him. He asks these 2 favors:
- For him to never tell a lie.
- To have just enough for his needs.
Application
When teaching my kids about lie, I always tell them: “if you lie, people won’t believe you anymore, even when you are telling the truth, because we will never know”. One spoken lie, breaks a person’s reputation and make any words coming from that person, questionable.
Sometimes people think it is easier to tell a lie than facing the challenges of the truth. But it does not matter how big or small this lie is, when you lie, you break the trust between two people.
“Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.”Proverbs 22:1 NLT
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word, that teaches me everyday. I want to honor Your holy name in every situation I face. May we trust you as our Protector, as the typhoon is coming this days. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
