Whose Giving the Orders?

Topic: Authority

‘and said to him, “Tell us by what authority you do these things, or who it is that gave you this authority.” ‘

Luke 20:2 (ESV)

Jesus is being questioned as to why He thinks he has the authority to do all the things He is doing. The Pharisees and Elders were challenging Jesus’ authority. Jesus knew they would not listen to Him even if He said His authority is from His father, Yahweh. So asked them a question to catch them in their hypocrisy. There are going to be challenges to why we do things according to our faith in Christ, but we should not let that deter us from doing what we are called to do.

I think that I need to remember the power and authority I have been given to not only share the Gospel, but to become closer to Christ. There are times my thoughts and even my heart will contradict what God says of me. There will be times where I feel pressured to give up the fight to be the person God has created me to be. I will hear voices that tell me “Why are you even trying to escape who you truly are?” But those lies are challenging the authority that has been given to me by God. I need to make choices to ignore those voices, or oppose them with the Word of God. I think I struggle with feelings of not being good enough. I need to combat these thoughts with

Ephesians 2:10
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Times I struggle with feeling regret and condemned:
Romans 8:1-2 ESV
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.
There are things that are going to come against the authority of Christ in my life and I need to be ready with Word of God and the Armor of God.
Lord Jesus, I grant you full authority in my life. I ask for your power to overcome times of doubt and attacks on my worth in you. I ask for your covering and your strength to battle when necessary. Thank you for your promises and for granting me your authority! I love you and ask of this in Your Mighty Name, Jesus. Amen!
