Memorial for the Generations

Scripture

“And Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken out of the Jordan. He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’ For the Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over. He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.””

Joshua 4:20-24 NIV

Observation

The Lord asked Moses to get stones to make a memorial of what had happened on that day. It wasn’t a memorial for God, but for us. It was to set a reminder to all the people of the earth that God is powerful and we should fear our God. Those stories would be told from generations to generations, and spread to all the earth.

Application

It is important to tell our kids what God have done and is doing into our lives and families. Kids needs to grow up knowing that God is all powerful. They will know God first by the stories that parents tell them. Not only Biblical stories, but personal encounters that we had with the Lord. How God provided. How God healed. How God intervened. How God spoke to our hearts. All this will count in set a foundation on their faith, until the day they will also decide to follow Christ by their own will.

I must be more intention to tell the amazing stories of God in my life to my kids.

Prayer

Graceful Father, thank you for your provision. Thank you I see your hands directing our lives everyday. Help me to show this to my kids as well. So they will always remember Your ways. In the name of Jesus, I pray.
