Learning to Pass the Baton

Scripture

“I have worked hard to provide materials for building the Temple of the Lord —nearly 4,000 tons of gold, 40,000 tons of silver, and so much iron and bronze that it cannot be weighed. I have also gathered timber and stone for the walls, though you may need to add more.”

1 Chronicles 22:14

Observation

David wanted to build a temple to honor the name of God.

But because of in numerous battles and all the blood he had shed, God wanted not him, but his son to build the temple.

So David knew that his son was young and still inexperienced. David understood that he wasn’t the one who would build the temple, but he prepared everything his son would need to accomplish the task. All the material and the people who would support Solomon in this important task.

Application

Sometimes, there are things that we want to do but for a number of reasons, we are not the ones who will accomplish it. We get it as my dreams, my goals, my achievements.

But looking at David’s life, I see that if it is in God’s heart, it will happen.

David knew he wasn’t the one God had chosen to build the temple. A lot of us would just stop there. But David knew that the temple he wanted to build was not only something he wanted to do, but it was in God’s heart.

So, instead of stopping, he made sure that the person that would carry on this task had everything he needed, even if was a young and an inexperienced person.

We often thing that we must hold on to our positions and titles because our successors are not ready, or are younger and less experienced than us.

The lesson God wants to teach about accomplishment is that the only thing it matters is if God guiding us. If God is guiding us, we will be able to accomplish the tasks ahead.

If David had take a different position, and said “I will build it anyways, because it is MY…” Then there will be no success.

Do I want to do things on my own, or do I really want to follow God’s directions?

Would I pass on the baton to the next generation when God asks me?

Would I help to prepare everything that is needed so the successor can finish the task?

Prayer

Father, help me to pass on the things, the goals, the dreams,  that is not for me to accomplish but to others. I want them to help to prepare everything they will need to accomplish the tasks. In Jesus’ name, I pray.
