“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”
Psalm 20:7 ESV
Observation
Some people will place their trust in things like, power, position, riches, fame, intellect, or even looks. But can these things save you? Make sure sure what you trust in, can really save you. Things fade, get stolen, forgotten, or wear out, but trusting in the Lord our God is forever!
It can be easy to put your trust in things that you see or have in the present and forget about what may happen. In a way, that is why people buy insurance. We cannot know what will happen in the future and as a safeguard, we can look to buying insurance. We pray that we won’t get cancer, or something won’t happen to our home, and insurance might help should something happen. However, all the things on this earth cannot give us insurance for our souls. The only insurance we have is in God. Yet, not only for our souls but for our life.
Application
Putting our faith in things in the world, can change at any moment. We can lose our money because of loss of our job, or something goes wrong so where do we turn? Sadly, for some they turn to hurting others, or surrendering their own life because they no longer have anything to put their trust in. In Matthew 7:24-27 calls us to build our life on a solid foundation, not on one that will wash away should storms or hardships come. Having a great job, a good lifestyle, etc, are blessings, but let’s not put our trust in them, but in the One from whom all comes. He will care for us in times of plenty and also in times of few.
Personally, I am called to stop worrying about what others may have. To stop looking toward things to save me when storms come, but to trust that God will be there to help me.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank you so much that we can have trust in You! For you are unchanging. You are forever, and you are the source of all things for me. Thank you for providing for me. I ask that you help us to trust in you and your timing for things. Let us not be swayed by things we have built up for ourselves. Let’s put our trust fully in You, God Almighty! In Your Name, Jesus. Amen!

ある人は、権力、地位、富、名声、知性、あるいは容姿などに信頼を置きます。しかし、これらのものはあなたを救うことができるでしょうか？あなたが信頼しているものが、本当にあなたを救うことができるかどうかを確認してください。物は色あせたり、盗まれたり、忘れられたり、すり減ったりしますが、私たちの神、主に信頼することは永遠です。
今、目に見えるものや持っているものに信頼を置き、起こるかもしれないことを忘れてしまうことがあります。ある意味では、それが保険に加入する理由でもあります。将来、何が起こるかわからないからこそ、安全のために保険に入ることができるのです。癌にならないように、家に何かが起こらないようにと祈り、何かあったときには保険が役に立つかもしれません。しかし、この世にあるすべてのものは、私たちの魂のための保険にはなりません。唯一の保険は、神様にあります。しかし、それは魂だけではなく、私たちの人生にも言えることです。
世の中のものを信じていると、いつの間にか変わってしまうことがあります。仕事を失ってお金を失うこともあるし、何か問題が起こったときには、どこに頼ればいいのでしょうか？悲しいことに、ある人は他人を傷つけたり、信頼できるものがなくなって自分の命を投げ出したりすることになります。マタイ7:24-27では、嵐や苦難が来ても洗い流されてしまうような土台ではなく、しっかりとした土台の上に人生を築くように言われています。仕事や生活が充実していることは祝福ですが、それに頼るのではなく、すべてのものの源であるお方に信頼しましょう。豊かな時も、貧しい時も、私たちを見守ってくださいます。
個人的には、他の人が持っているものを気にしないようにと言われています。嵐が来たときに自分を救ってくれるものに目を向けるのではなく、神様がそこにいて助けてくださることを信じるように。
愛するイエス様、私たちがあなたに信頼を置くことができることを心から感謝します。あなたは不変の方です。あなたは永遠であり、私にとってすべてのものの源であります。私を養ってくださり、ありがとうございます。私たちがあなたとあなたのタイミングを信じることができるようにしてください。自分で作り上げたものに振り回されないようにしましょう。全能の神であるあなたに全面的に信頼を置きましょう。あなたの名前、イエスで。アーメン!
