Commit to Mastery

“Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary people.”

Proverbs 22:29 NLT

Observation:

This proverb is highlighting the benefit of doing good work. Not only good work, but doing it to a point where you are mastering it. Some people are satisfied with just getting by in their work. Doing the bare essentials of it to keep the boss happy or not get into trouble. This is not talking about ambition, rather it is a duty that we should do all that is set before us with competency and mastery. We should set our sights on not just working for our employer, but more importantly working for the Lord as stated in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”

Application:

I know there are times I have been caught and caught myself just doing what I can to get by. I need to be doing things to the best of my ability and that is what not only my employers, but the Lord expects. We are not given things like a pay check or blessings to do something only half-heartedly. The level of my work should be nothing but quality and competency. I have to ask myself, why should I expect to do greater things if I am not willing to put in the necessary work for the tasks at hand. I need to really start scaling up the work that is in front of me.

Prayer:

Thank you Jesus, for your understanding. Thank you for your patience with times I have not been giving my best with what you have blessed me with. I ask for your forgiveness. I choose to be more careful about the work I do and glorify You through the work I do. I pray for your guidance and mercy when I do make mistakes. I love you and am so grateful for all you have given me! In Your Name, Jesus! Amen!
