Scripture:
“Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”
John 20:30-31 ESV
Observation:
John tells us there were so many miracles and signs that Jesus performed and did according to the Scriptures to prove He is the Christ, the Son of God. In the Gospel, it refers to Jesus as the Son of God twenty nine times and says that God is Father over a hundred times. In the Old Testament, there are about three hundred prophecies of the coming of Jesus, the Messiah an Jesus fulfilled them all. A mathematician wrote that for one person to fulfill 40 prophecies, would be like odds of 1 in 10157. You would have a better chance of winning the lottery than for someone to actually fulfill 40 prophecies. But the point that John wrote this Gospel, was not to impress us with Jesus’ credentials, but rather that we would believe in Jesus and have life in Hhis name.
Many of us may just read the Bible as a collection of stories of extraordinary miracles and faith of people listed in there. But John desires the readers of this Book to know that Jesus is real and that He is not someone who’s time had passed and has no prevalence to us today.
Application:
In the state SNS and media today, you may never know what is fake news. There are theories and ideas that delude us and confuse us with the what is really real. I need to be filling my mind and surround my life with the Word of God, with Jesus who is the Christ. Real living is living in His truth. It is evermore important for me to take the Word of God as not only a book that has life advice, rather the living and breathing Word of God that brings life.
Prayer:
Jesus, all glory and honor to you! Thank you for that sacrifice you made to bring us hope and life. Please let your Truth wash away and replace the lies I have been believing. I desire to know what real life means and I choose to stay close to you. Please allow me to see your will and to be where you are working. I love you and am so grateful that you chose to be born a child and to know and understand the condition we are in. Thank you for being the High Priest that has offered not the blood of animals for the atonement of sin, but your own blood. Thank you for fulfilling the prophecies of your coming and for the prophecies you will be fulfilling in your Second Coming. Thank you , Jesus, my God, my Father, my friend. I love you so much!
